Our client, a reputable and growing company in the manufacturing sector, is seeking a detail-oriented and numerically proficient Payroll Officer to join their team. Reporting to the Human Resource Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the company’s monthly payroll, ensuring compliance with all statutory deductions, tax regulations, and internal policies. This role requires a high degree of integrity, confidentiality, and meticulous attention to detail.
The Payroll Officer shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Payroll Processing: Accurately compute and process monthly payroll for all employees, including wages, salaries, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and allowances.
Statutory Compliance: Calculate, deduct, and remit all statutory contributions including PAYE, Social Security (NSSF), withholding tax, and any other mandated deductions in compliance with Ugandan laws.
Record Maintenance: Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, promotions, salary adjustments, bank account details, and leave balances.
Attendance Management: Collect, verify, and reconcile timesheets, attendance records, and shift schedules from production and other departments.
Reporting: Generate monthly payroll reports and statutory filing reports for the HR Manager and management.
Employee Queries: Respond promptly to employee inquiries regarding payslips, deductions, tax calculations, and other payroll-related matters.
Payroll Audit Support: Provide payroll data and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Accounting & Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on payroll processing experience, preferably within the manufacturing, production, or similar fast-paced industry.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Tally, QuickBooks Payroll, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, formulas).
Knowledge: Thorough understanding of local tax laws.
Numerical Accuracy: High level of numerical aptitude and attention to detail with zero tolerance for errors.
Integrity: Must be honest and possess high moral and ethical standards, particularly regarding confidential employee information.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with employees and management.
Deadline-Oriented: Ability to work under pressure and meet strict monthly payroll deadlines.
Team Player: Ability to work harmoniously with the finance and HR teams.
