Reports To: Out-Grower Manager
Location: Field-based (Kyankwanzi District)
Position Summary
The role focuses on improving farmer productivity, ensuring compliance with company standards, and coordinating field activities from planting to harvesting. The Supervisor acts as the link between the Company and farmers to ensure efficient, sustainable, and profitable cane production.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Mobilize and register new out-grower farmers within the company’s operational area.
2. Conduct regular farm visits to provide agronomic advice on land preparation, seed cane quality, planting, fertilizer use, weed management, ratoon maintenance, and pest/disease control.
3. Promote Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), climate-smart farming, and soil conservation techniques relevant to Uganda.
4. Coordinate distribution of agricultural inputs (seed cane, fertilizers, herbicides, tools) in accordance with company policies.
5. Track input usage and maintain up-to-date records for accountability.
6. Identify farmers requiring specialized support and arrange technical trainings or demonstration plots.
7. Maintain accurate farmer records: acreage, GPS coordinates, crop age, and estimated yield.
8. Submit periodic reports as and when required.
9. Monitor harvesting quality, transportation time, and cane handling procedures.
10. Engage in community sensitization on fire prevention, land boundary respect, and cane theft mitigation.
Qualifications & Experience
• Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Extension, or related discipline.
• 2-3 years of field-based agricultural extension experience, preferably in sugarcane or plantation crops.
• Experience working with cane farmers in Uganda is highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with out-grower schemes, contract farming models, or community-based agriculture programs.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong knowledge of sugarcane agronomy and production cycles and ability to communicate with farmers in local languages.
• Proficiency in field data collection, record-keeping, and basic reporting.
• Ability to ride a motorcycle (with a valid riding permit) and navigate rural terrain.
